Most of the knife training that we recieve is based on first controling the knife hand or clearing the knife hand away. Most people that charge at you with a knife think its thier only weapon. The just will hack, slash or charge at you with it. The only knife tequnices that I do not like is where it puts the knife to close to anything vital, like your kneck or your back.

The sad truth about such a situation is that you are f.u.t.a.

I forgot where, but despite all the manuals about surviving a knife attack, the truth was, you are screwed.

Do what you can, they are trying to kill you. That means don't hold back if you get a chance to grab the wrsit break it, and then pound the living * out of them! Knock them to the ground then run off to somewhere safe. If you are truly fighting for your life never hold back, use throat, eye, and temple strikes to disable them. Hit there wind pipe hard and they won't even be able to swing another slash or punch. Let alone fight back.

The amateur shoots his hands out ferociously, but lacks any true power. A master is not so flamboyant, but his touch is as heavy as a mountain.

That's why moving offline of an attack is so important, you don't know if the person has a knife or not. Better safe than sorry. Distance is time.

Yeah, that guy making on 8 pattern really sound like he committing to an attack. If this person comes at you, you still want to move out of the way 8 pattern or not. You're in a better place to strike or whatever presents itself. Distance and timing is crucial. Attack the person not the knife.
