thaiboxerken Posted June 24, 2001 Posted June 24, 2001 Karate alone is weak also. There isn't a ONE art that has a monopoly on the truth. I've seen many "karate" guys go down due to the hands of good boxers. Also, just because a person does boxing doesn't mean that person doesn't have a history in "dirty" fighting or martial arts either. Never underestimate a boxer, if you do, you'll be eating gravel. Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.
Angus Posted June 24, 2001 Posted June 24, 2001 Once again i agree with Ken... even the revered art of grappling has its weak points... Crosstraining is DEFINATELY the way to go and i would and have included boxing in my training. Angus. Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.

Blood Eagle Posted June 24, 2001 Posted June 24, 2001 The only thing I can see boxing is useful for, is earning money. It shouldn't even have to do with subject "martial arts", so let's not start comparing them and saying, the art i do is better than yours. ok? Fear is just a feeling that you have to overcome, it cannot hurt you. Only panic is a deadly act!
Angus Posted June 24, 2001 Posted June 24, 2001 I disagree BE, it IS a martial art. Have you ever heard of Pankraytion? It is considered by some to be the very first martial art and it combines boxng with greco-roman wrestling. It was developed in Greece. I think you should have a ful contact fight with a good boxer and see how well he fights. Boxing IS a martial art! Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.
thaiboxerken Posted June 25, 2001 Posted June 25, 2001 Yep, boxing is a martial art. It is a method of fighting based on punching alone. It is a ring-sport also. But, boxing is obviously making it's impact in other martial arts. Many, many people are incorporating boxing into their systems. As far as punching is concerned, boxing is the best method, IMO. Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.
Karateka_latino Posted June 25, 2001 Posted June 25, 2001 Boxing is great for Combat, and can fit with most of the unarmed martial arts. I think every serious self defense student must take boxing lessons.. Not only because of the punching power you can get , also for the conditioning and the touch of realism that many traditional martial arts just don't have. Thanks.
F-S-K Posted June 26, 2001 Posted June 26, 2001 my sister is actually engaged to the twice scottish boxing champion and hes giving me training to compliment the kickboxing, and to increase my punching power, i find it pretty damn good and you also need to be very fit to go 12 rounds in a boxing match
Angus Posted June 26, 2001 Posted June 26, 2001 Yeah, soyou'd imagine... I like the training methods used in the Rocky movies - although the fighting is a bit iffy.. Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.
Tim Greer Posted June 29, 2001 Posted June 29, 2001 Boxing is good fun, a good skill to have an incoporate into almost any style. Take just striking out of a lot of styles of martial arts and boxing could beat many of them. Of course, there are styles that would be superior to boxing, but it depends on the fight and the medium. Still, boxing is something any martial artist should consider trying to see how and if it improves their applications, performance or striking skills. I agree with what some said here, it is a martial art, in it's very definitive term. It may not be for everyone, but if nothing else, it's a good way to get experience with what most decent street fighters will be doing, if they are even that good... which most are not, of course. I'd suggest trying it, it really is a lot of fun. Regards,Tim Greer -> admin@chatbase.com | Phone: 530-222-7244I study any and every style and I'm always looking to spar!!Also, if I'm not around for a while, I'm just away training.
