Lars Posted June 17, 2001 Posted June 17, 2001 How weak do you guys think boxing is? All of the hard training in boxing is the good side, but the fighting is very bad, and ineffective. I just can't understand why it is so popular, maybe because it is a very old english/american fighting form. Lars Østergaard
Patrick Posted June 17, 2001 Posted June 17, 2001 It may be a bit weak, but it is somewhat entertaining. iamrushman Posted June 18, 2001 Posted June 18, 2001 i feel that its the judging and the referees that make it weak. but i must agree it's entertaining. rushman (karate forums sensei)3rd dan wtf/kukkiwon"saying nothing...sometimes says the most"--e. dickerson
Lars Posted June 18, 2001 Author Posted June 18, 2001 I have never thought boxing was entertaining. I think it's boring, on the other hand kickboxing is entertaining! Long time pro boxers allways get those ugly noses, that make them look like they ran into a concrete wall. Lars Østergaard
Tobias_Reece Posted June 18, 2001 Posted June 18, 2001 If you compare Boxing to other martial arts, such as Muay Thai, you will see that it is actually very "weak". The guard only protects the face, with the feet and legs unguarded. Its "ashi" city! C ya "You Are Never Given A Dream Without Also Being Given The Power To Make It True. egarlock Posted June 19, 2001 Posted June 19, 2001 Boxing as a ring sport could be considered weak, however it's the same sort of criticism that is placed on sport Tae Kwon Do. Too many limitations for real combat application. My biggest criticism on boxing is obviously neglect for the legs. I've sparred enough people though to know that once a boxer is inside, look out! Conveniently, in modern times there aren't too many street thugs that can throw a decent low line kick, so boxing is a great street skill. Avoid not "my art's better", but "your art's not"! thaiboxerken Posted June 23, 2001 Posted June 23, 2001 Boxing is a great martial art! Yes it is a martial art, just because it doesn't have eastern philosophy instilled within it doesn't mean it's not a martial art. It has it's limitations, in that they don't deal with kicks, grappling and other methods, but as far as strking with the hands and defending hand techniques, there are very few arts that compare. If boxing was so "weak" then I don't understand why it has impacted the martial arts in such a huge way. I train in Muay Thai, and for out hand skills, we haven incorporated queensbury boxing because it adds so much more to the game. Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.

Lars Posted June 23, 2001 Author Posted June 23, 2001 In my eyes boxing is weak because of the limitations to it. Boxing alone isn't powerful. Lars Østergaard
