Dragon Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 this is a real tough one because each weapon has its good points and bad points. Bo - Its easy and light. You can hold it anywhere Bokken - Being hit with it is hard and is easy. Id probably go with the bo http://www.austers.co.ukOne must be like all changes of state.Solid - Tough and strong!Liquid - Relaxed and make your techniques flow!Gas - Fast!
Kyle-san Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 I'd got with the bokken, but that's just because I like the size of it. It's quicker and can be used in the same manner as a bo.
1ONEfighting Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 The bo can be used at a much longer range than the bokken, and is still effective in close. Advantage=BO Trainwreck Tiemeyerwishes he was R. Lee Ermey.
Shogun Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 i would go with bokken. i like the bo, but once you cover the distance, much of the bo is useless, whereas the bokken will still be functional. however, if you are not skilled at covering distance, the bo will destroy you. 1ONEfighting Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 If you get to the range that the bo would be useless, you won't find much use for a bokken either. Trainwreck Tiemeyerwishes he was R. Lee Ermey.
Kyle-san Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 Of course, having a shorter weapon means that you have a smaller area to cover/defend. A bokken could be utilized in the same way as a small bo or as a sword, whichever would give the advantage for the specific situation. But a bokken in close would be more effective than a bo in close, simply because it would take less room to manipulate and make use of it.
Treebranch Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 Just use a hanbo, there are really great techniques you can do with a hanbo. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
Shogun Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 Kyle-san, yeah thats what i was talking about, but 1ONEfighting seems to disagree with me. Man to man, Soldier to soldier, Dust to dust.
KaratekaAikidoist Posted May 15, 2003 Posted May 15, 2003 I'd choose bokken, already having one, because the bo and bokken weigh about the same. Also the bokken is easier to manuever and you eventually can work to sword.
