aznkarateboi
Both of these arts are known for their quick and deadly applications on the street. So, which of these arts is more suited for self defense? And which is more effective in a NHB ring?

TJS
Here are my Thoughts on the Matter- Krav Maga Is going to better prepeare you for a street altercation and here is why- KM teaches you how to fight from a disadvantage..like someone choking you from behind, slaming you into a wall, has you in a headlock, tackles you etc..the techniques are not only designed to work under stress as in the follow instinctive reactions..they are designed to still work if you are late...KM deals with just about every range of the fight. Muay Thai is Arguably the most effective standup fighting stlye in the world..If you look at the KM and MT they are very similar though..Kicks are nearly identical...Knees from the clinch/elbows etc...and the hands of KM are basically western boxing..In standup though i would give the edge to MT and here is why..in KM you spend alot of time working on things like choke breaks, escapes, weapon defenses, takedown defenses, ground fighting etc...while it MT you are going to foucus 100% on standup fighting..so it's obvious who is going ot have more experience in that range If it were a real NHB fight like Vale tudo or Early UFC stlye MY bet would proabably on KM.if we are talking pure style vs stlye..because A) KM spars with Groing kicks/knees and Most MT fighters really arent not used to that.(I have heeard a few stories of KM vs MT ) B) KM does have some grappling/groundfighting..while it's not the extent that BJJ has or anything its more than you will see in MT since there is none. Im not bashing MT by any means It is bruatally effective in standup fighting Cross train in some grappling and you have a deadly combo...but KM simply has to many weapons in single stlye vs stlye comparisons. Just my thoughts.

Sepultura
i think Muay thai is more effective than KM in An NHB ring.and it also depends on the practitioner.a bad muay thaist will get his ass kicked by a good Krava Maga Practitionar and vice versa. TJS
Share your KM vs MT stories, TJS Well One of the Senior Inctructors in L.A. named John Whitman Has Sparred With a few world class Muay Thai Fighters and while in a ring he said they can usually stick it to him pretty good but once they add groin kicks its throws alot of them off their game..they are simply not used to dealing with groin kicks and it turns the odds around...most people are not..but this is not always the case Some MT fighters do protect their groings well. Just one example..
SaiFightsMS
The purpose of this area of the forum is to compare martial arts not to say one is better than another.
