iolair Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 Occassionally (OK, often) people ask on here which is the "best" martial art. What I want to ask, is what would be your personal criteria for choosing which martial art is best for you? Currently: Kickboxing and variants.Previously: Karate (Seido, Shotokan, Seidokan), Ju Jitsu, Judo, Aikido, Fencing.
WC-Strayder Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 For me it is what works in a self-defence situation. Diff, question, coz on this forum the most of us have done the choosing already..... If the first lesson was a failure, then you know that skydiving isn't for you!
TJS Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 how well it works, how has it been proven, and of course i would have to enjoy it.
karate_woman Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 Hmm. Enjoyment. Which for me is being challenging, learning new things, and being able to work on improving my techniques. The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. -Lao-Tse
SBN Doug Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 For me, it would be which one can I learn to control the attacker/ situation with the minimal amount of force exerted on that person. i.e., I don't want to pound the guy into unconsciousness unless there is absolutely no other way. Had I not wound up in KSW, I probably would have felt most comfortable in either Hapkido or Aikido. Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.

Treebranch Posted May 16, 2003 Posted May 16, 2003 Find a Martial Art that best compliments your character. Study a Martial Art that appeals to you, even if it may not be the most popular one.
