King of Fighters Posted May 8, 2003 Posted May 8, 2003 Are they like the same thing except bjj is rougher? What are their differences.
PhilM1 Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 judo focus's more on throws and then ties in the grappling. i believe it was made to fill ju jitsu. (not bjj) fight til you die
SevenStar Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 I don't think I'd agree that bjj is rougher - they are both very intense. as for differences, it's mainly the focus - judo mainly focuses on throwing, however, it's not uncommon to find expaonents who love groundwork - my coach is one of them. In competition, however, groundwork is limited in judo, so you have to work fast - you are only allowed 10 seconds on the ground, unless progress is being made in a pin or towards a submission - once progress stops, they will stand you back up. another difference is the rules - leg locks aren't allowed in judo, and scoring is different, obviously. Are you looking for any specific things that may be different?
Kensai Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 BJJ = Basically Just Judo. Just joking. However they are very similar. The only differene techniques wise is that BJJers focus on the ground and Judoka focus on standing.
