Treebranch Posted May 8, 2003 Author Posted May 8, 2003 He would have never got the arm, he would have been to hurt from being banged into the floor. He couldn't continue fighting after that fight he was exhausted. I don't know why it's relevant, but it's interesting. So you say size does matter, got it. TJS Posted May 8, 2003 Posted May 8, 2003 I also dont think Royce was ever in a position that would have ended the fight if he were on concrete... Would he have had more cuts/scrapes/bruises? proabably But i dont think Kimo would have neccesarily won....look at the size diffrence between them...what stlye would have done better? If two people have identical skill and training no matter what the stlye. the larger opponet will win...it's as simple as that.
JohnnyS Posted May 8, 2003 Posted May 8, 2003 I know that Royce had low blood sugar levels after and during that fight and that's why he was in the condition he was. Look at his other matches and he was fine after wrestling bigger and better skilled opponents. What you're saying is all theoretical. Royce won. Case closed. Treebranch Posted May 8, 2003 Author Posted May 8, 2003 It was said by the announcers, that it was the longest anyone had kept Gracie on his feet. No point, just talking. shotokanwarrior Posted May 8, 2003 Posted May 8, 2003 did you see how out of gas royce was? The street may have been different. Kimo was so crazy who knows what would have happened with no rules. Where Art ends, nature begins.
Treebranch Posted May 8, 2003 Author Posted May 8, 2003 I think size matters more in competition fighting, than in a streetfight. Ring fighting is a controlled environment and you can't exactly run around to evade the attack of a bigger fighter. MSPav Posted May 8, 2003 Posted May 8, 2003 Bruce Lee was afraid to fight Ali. He put his fist up in comparison to the size of Ali's and said "Look at my little Chinese fist!". I kinda think that he'd have known what he was talking about. To me, it's a very obvious question. If the skill level is identical, then it must come down to physical prowess; i.e., strength, endurance, and speed. I mean, duh!
Treebranch Posted May 8, 2003 Author Posted May 8, 2003 That sucks for little people and women. I think being taught to be smart and how to find psychological weaknesses in you attacker is a good way to balance the scales if you smaller. You can make the big guy lose his cool, or make him chase you and get him tired, frustrate them. I think Schools should teach these type of techniques to their students as well as MA techniques. There really werent any rules at that point other than no biting/eye gouging...but both of those happened on various occasions.
Treebranch Posted May 8, 2003 Author Posted May 8, 2003 Do all of you really think that the only advantage of Combat Martials Arts is biting and eye gouging? There's a lot more than you can imagine.
