ninjanurse Posted May 5, 2003 Posted May 5, 2003 Has anyone here ever heard of a system called Ibuki-do? It seems geared towards full contact tourney fighting. I am interested in it's origins, founder, ranking system, etc. Thanks! hobbitbob Posted May 5, 2003 Posted May 5, 2003 What is the kanji for the style name? IS it the same Ibuki that is a form of "hard" breathing? There have always been Starkadders at Cold Comfort Farm!
ninjanurse Posted May 6, 2003 Author Posted May 6, 2003 I have absolutely no info on its origins, etc. This guy opened a school in town as a brown belt(!) and has been unable to provide clear history. He states they have a circuit of fighters that travel around and he is teaching his students (even little kids) to fight. I am guessing the underlying "style" has japanese origins just by what I have observed. Honestly, the whole things sounds and looks made up. monkeygirl Posted May 6, 2003 Posted May 6, 2003 I googled but came up empty 1st dan & Asst. Instructor TKD 2000-2003No matter the tune...if you can rock it, rock it hard.
SoulAssassin Posted May 8, 2003 Posted May 8, 2003 Does the guy that teach that have glasses, or dark hair? Hehe Sounds like the school I went to before. It was traditional Tang Soo Do, then the next thing I know I was in a "tourny club" and I was learning ''Tang Soo Do, Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, American Karate, PressurePoints, Grappling, meditation'' and other weird things like, ''suspended animation, way of the lightfoot,'' and other mind playing things.. I dont really know why he taught us the last part but when I think of it now, it kind of reminds me of a cult. I met up with 6/10 students from that class including myself at the mall about a month ago and we all have similar problems. We all now have a mix of bi-polar, anixety, depression etc... and the 4 that didnt show 2 are in juveniall dentention center, 1 is in jail, 1 is in rehab.. the 2 in juvy charged with stealing-disorderly conduct-stalking-assault, the one is in jail for murder, and the one in rehab was hooked on cocain. freaky? Yes very. I have a post on here a while back that explains the things we went through if you look it up. But I wouldnt trust it unless you check it out more.. -SoulAssassin"I aint gonna eat, I aint gonna sleep, aint gonna breath till I see what I wanna see and what I wanna see is you goto asleep, in the dirt permanently"
ninjanurse Posted May 8, 2003 Author Posted May 8, 2003 He is of hispanic origin, however I know nothing about his instructor. I don't know what other kinds of stuff they are teaching but I do know that his students are quite confrontational at school are are not learning respect as I define it. karate_woman Posted May 8, 2003 Posted May 8, 2003 The only thing I could find pertaining to martial arts on ibuki is the same as what hobbitbob mentioned...a form of hard breathing. Ibuki is incorporated into karate as a breathing style.......is the full contact fighting really just knocking people out with bad breath? Interesting choice of name if that is the case. I also found a quote for ibukido in a reference of japanese literature..."Ibukido Nushi [the master of the spurting-out place], who dwells in Ibukido"...http://www.lily.sannet.ne.jp/s_noriko/Aston_01.htm Makes you wonder..in that reference, Ibukido appears to be the "spurting out place". That's kind of a funny name for a dojo too As for the instructor being a bit vague and cagey on his answers for the style and his personal history...that would set alarm bells off for me. ninjanurse Posted May 8, 2003 Author Posted May 8, 2003 Oh the bells are definitely ringing!!! The other day I had the opportunity to observe this gentleman walking around at a baseball game in his gi with his brand new black belt hanging around his neck! Personally I found it offensive. I have no intention of taking up his offer to join his school...my concern is the families who live in our small town. I also have a problem in that I have intended to open a school here since I came but I am not sure if it would be a good idea with him right next door-BAD KARMA!( I wouldn't want a Karate Kid movie situation to occur.) On the other hand, the kids here need something positive and character building as there are very few opportunities and activities here. It is a frustrating situation. Thanks for all the research you guys have done...especially the origin of the name !!!!!
