Not easily. I don't think you can actually strengthen the bone through training, and the bone is so close to the skin on your shins. Your best bet would be to do exercises that build the muscle there; lifting a barbell using your toes, for instance.

If you kick with your shins enough, you'll deaden the nerves and consequently feel less pain. Is it good for you? No.

to add on to the original question- what about the area of the shin that you dont kick with, like the top half? if you take a kick there or collide with your opponent's shin, that can really hurt- and theres no real way to kick a bag with that part of your leg. so what about that part?

This is the method my traininer told me about, and its worked pretty good for me if I say so myself...

Goto your kitchen, go into your drawer and pull out your rolling pin, go back to the couch and sitdown watch TV...and roll it back and forth over your shin then when your about to say...in the words of popeye "I can't stands it no more"...do that for a long time and it toughes them pretty good and you don't need to kick, its a good way to impress your trainer when you show up with stronger shins :karate:

Are you kidding? Of course you can kick the bag with any part of the shin. But there's no getting around the fact that if somebody uses their shin to block yours, it's going to :kaioken: like a .

I don't know what the evidence, one way or the other, on toughening the bone itself. I do know that kicking the bag rules. Not only is it fun and vigorous exercise, it lessens the pain of hitting things like ribs dramatically.

Last thing you want to do is use a rolling pin. You'll pay for it later in life.

Actually, it's alright to use a rolling pin; but ROLL, don't hit! If you hit your shins, you're going to damage them. Of course, in a fight/sparring, that's inevitable, but it's not something you want to encourage.

Easiest way is just to kick a fairly hard bag repeditively (at least 100 times, apparently), and to pause occasionally to massage blood back into that area.
