WC-Strayder Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 I can just say what I saw in Combat magazine, april issue this year, about Joe Sayah, nothing more, nothing less. If you don't believe me, buy it yourself and take a look. An if I stepped on some toes here I apologize for that. Just like you, JohnnyS, said, the on and on going about "my style is better than your's" are taking us nowhere, it is better to cooperate and learn something instead, right. But then again, it's a lot easier to disscuss somthing with people that agrees with you than with people who don't, right?. Just take a look at this http://www.wahnam.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=552 and this http://www.nononsenseselfdefense.com/grappling.html Have fun, thats what really counts! If the first lesson was a failure, then you know that skydiving isn't for you!
1ONEfighting Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 I looked at both articles/threads you posted. How does any of that support your stance? MacYoung advocates learning grappling to round out your arsenal, and the Wahnam thread turned into a UFC lovefest. Trainwreck Tiemeyerwishes he was R. Lee Ermey.
WC-Strayder Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 So??. I had nothing against any style, just the "My style/art is better than you!", stuff. And youknow what?. It has been better!. If the first lesson was a failure, then you know that skydiving isn't for you!
Treebranch Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 JohnnyS said, "Where's your proof of the effectiveness of Combat Martial Arts ? Oh, you mean anecdotes and legends ? Yeah feudal Japan is just myth and legend, there's no history on the subject of Combat (Being very sarcastic of course). Come on, how can you dismiss hundreds of years of fighting and not come to the conclusion that these people have more experience than some prize fighter? 1ONEfighting Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 "Come on, how can you dismiss hundreds of years of fighting and not come to the conclusion that these people have more experience than some prize fighter?" Who has more experience? Someone who learned from someone who learned from someone who learned from an experienced fighter, or that experienced fighter himself? Trainwreck Tiemeyerwishes he was R. Lee Ermey.

I would say someone who has studied his Art for the last 40 years, has more to teach, than a fighter in his prime. As in any Art it takes a lot longer to be a Master than it does to be contender. Would you take a driving course from a man who has never driven? Trainwreck Tiemeyerwishes he was R. Lee Ermey.
Treebranch Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 Well I wouldn't study under someone who has never been in a fight. Every instructor I ever had was either a war veteran, or had fought a lot in his youth and learning Martial Artist kept him from fighting. I wouldn't study Sport Martial Arts from someone who has never been in a fight, no. 1ONEfighting Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 "Every instructor I ever had was either a war veteran, or had fought a lot in his youth and learning Martial Arts kept him from fighting." Did any of them fight using the techniques they had learned in their respective arts? "I wouldn't study Sport Martial Arts from someone who has never been in a fight, no." And what of combat martial arts? Trainwreck Tiemeyerwishes he was R. Lee Ermey.
1ONEfighting Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 I also have to cede that the best fighters don't always make the best teachers. Trainwreck Tiemeyerwishes he was R. Lee Ermey.
