Well if you mean like a street fight street fight where there are multiple weapons around and so many other obsticales that a diry fighter could use, I'd bet that it would be a lot harder then your dojo thinks.

Streetfighters... hmm..

In my shito class there's this guy who just started, and he learned to fight the hard way. When I'm sparring with him, he's unpredictable. If it werent for the fact that he was using control, I'd have been a greasy little **** stain on the ground. That man could so EASILY kick my arse in a real fight.

He has (alon w/ his bro), on several times, however, flailed his legs too much and got tea-bagged by me. Always wear a cup is what the instructer says....

===================

When cornered, kick 'em in the spetznats. If that doesn't work, run around acting like an epilept + flail your arms about while whizzin' in your pants, then fall down foaming at the mouth. They'll be so disgusted THEY will walk away from the fight....

i think (and so does my dojo) that fighting a street fighter is going to be alot easyer than fighting someone who knows karate. My point on that is when you spar against a person that know karate, the person is going to be alot harder to get a reverse punch in or a front snap kick ect. than a street fighter would be. would you guys agree on that?

One more thing, A reverse punch or a front snap kick require a very specific engagement distance, one which no street fighter (or untrained fighter) would fight you at. I'd say it would be a lot easier to get a karate trained person with a reverse punch then anyone else, they are the only ones that put themself in the right position to get one...

Work on controlling a clinch, thats more likely to help you out. And try to pick up some boxing skills. Reverse punches don't show up anywhere but karate dojo's for a reason.

Or try some Wing Chun sticky hands (Chi Sao) fighting. (It’s mush better than boxing in close quarter fighting! I know, cause I done both!!). Sticky hands (Chi Sao) will teach you how to fight very close to an opponent and basically deny him to do anything to you while you hitting/bashing/sweeping him. Wing Chun fighting will also teach you how to avoid the opponents “killing zone” and instead attack him on his “blind zone” and learn how to attack with really fast forward pressure and never give the opponent a “rest” until he rests of natural courses, so to speak. Try it and you will see the diffrence…..

If the first lesson was a failure, then you know that skydiving isn't for you!

Andrew isn't that what footwork (also found in boxing) is for? creating or closing gaps for those punches and kicks? I mean OK I understand that you being someone that is far more experienced in martial arts than I am - but good footwork makes it pretty easy to close or retreat

If attacked by a street fighter,its basicaly fair to say to expect the unexpected.When training for self defense, that,s one of the key elements to keep in mind always whenever you are attacked(either by a MA or a street fighter) on a good note,most street fighters don,t know how to go with the flow like a trained martial artist,like if you executed a joint lock..performed a throw..most untrained individuals would probably resist your technique therefore causing even more injury to that person in the process.You must also keep in mind that a well trained martial artist knows how to hit,and where to hit to either disable a attacker..or even kill if it was life and death.

andrew you said taht basicly a reverse punch is useless in a street fight. if it is so usless than why does karate teach it and a street fighter isnt going to expect a kick or a reverse punch if you do a kickink punching combo a street fighter is not going to expect that beacuse they usually hit then backaway hit again or just go all out and just swing and hope to hit. a highly trained karate fighter will beable to beat a street fighter beacuse a karate fighter knows how to fight when and where to hit ect.

simpe solution if you are a martial artist don't start shit

i dunno that's always been the message i've learnt

you are responsible for your life and your actions - starting fights is a good way to be end up dead.
