I recently found a Korean martial arts school that has a quality Hapkido program there.

Being that Hapkido is a comprehensive style that has a little of everything in it, would it be a good martial art for a police officer to start studying?

Some Hapkido schools would be better than others. I've heard, from even our own membership, that some Hapkido schools do ground fighting training. I would think that would be excellent. I study Kuk Sool Won, which has many similarities to Hapkido, but we don't train as much as I would like in a wrestling type situation.

You want to make sure you're capable of handling yourself if a nut charges and takes you to the ground.

I have been a Police Officer 7 years and have studied Hapkido for 16 years and have found it to be a great Martial Art for use in my job as a Police Officer. I have used alot of techniques I have learned on my job and the strenous classes keep my in great shape (I am 38 but often pass for 20's) the Dan Joen breathing is a good aid in stressful situations.

This is just a fact that I have picked up from some KOrean masters in hapkido. THye told me that in order to be a police officer in KOrea you have to hold a first dan in hapkido.

I like the fact that Korean Police Officers must be trained in HApkido for the job. I think it should be mandatory for all Police Officers everywhere. The defensive training here is abysmal...
