CheekyMusician Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 Don't worry. I'm 17 and when I started the same fears entered my mind. You'll find that there is a lot of people who will be older than you there. There may be a 5th Kyu who is 40 years old, for example, and although they're higher ranked than you, they'll have started later in life than you. Don't worry about it. Just go, enjoy yourself and if your being badly treated either tell your instructors and see if an end is put to it or find another dojo. Good luck! Smile. It makes people wonder what you've been up to.
shotochem Posted April 23, 2003 Posted April 23, 2003 15!!! I was more than twice your age when I started . In my experience no one in most MA classes will ever look down or show lack of respect for someone of lower rank. We were all there not too long ago ourselves . The old saying is true no matter how good you get at somthing there is still someone out there that is better. Dont worry, enjoy yourself, learn as much as you can Jjust have fun . Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
Kung Fu Hamster Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 You'll be fine- The people who are higher grades yet younger should be ok unless they're cocky. I don't go around taking the mick outta the adults because they're lower belts than me.. If anything, I try and help them... You should be ok... Everybodies Going Kung Fu Fighting! Yah Hoocha! LMAO
DeeLovesKarate Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 Don't worry about it. After my old dojo closed, I started at my current one. I was 12. I wasn't treated any differently. We have people in our dojo who started at the age of twenty. I think it's an ego thing. You don't want to be of lower rank than people younger than you.
