Anzie Posted April 21, 2003 Posted April 21, 2003 Many have maby noticed me asking a lot of questions regarding different things here at the forums. I bet even some posts are very stupid I hope it's not annoying to anyone, I do it just to learn stuff and not to achieve many posts. Anyway, I was wondering about Shootfighting. Since where I am going to start, we learn it for the sport. I have done sports-karate (which is Karate entirely for the sport) and it was not very good for self defence. Hence my question, is Shootfighting good for self defence? And this is probably a stupid question, but do you think Ken Shamrock (a world champion, saw him in some early UFC's.) is good at self defence on the street? Sorry if I ask too many plain dim questions. Thanks! Grappling enthusiast!Shootfighting as well.
AndrewGreen Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 The reason sport karate is not good for self-defence is because it limits what you can do to the point where it looses any sense of realism. Shootfighting trains in all ranges, with all weapons. Early UFC's where as close to street fight conditions as you can get without being in the street. Tombstone Posted April 25, 2003 Posted April 25, 2003 Shootfighting is good for self defense. As for Ken Shamrock, I'd imagine he can handle himself well.
WolverineGuy Posted April 25, 2003 Posted April 25, 2003 I'm fairly sure that Shamrock could hold his own against practically anyone. Shootfighting has a great blend of striking and grappling...doesn't make you an expert in either, but it does give you a backup when one fails. WolverineGuy Posted April 25, 2003 Posted April 25, 2003 *L* Hence the word PRACTICALLY. And I'm sure there are several 170 lbs brazillians named Royce that he could hold his own against...just not that one in particular.
