One of my classmates just returned from China, where he went to study "Shaolin".

He paid $600 US for a month of training, plus about $1700 for the plane fair to China.

He had an interesting time to say the least. He attended a "statellite" school. Unfortunately for him, there was no heat or running water in the quarters provided, nor an area to prepare food. The first night apparently the tempearture dropped below the freezing mark. These conditions were not the what was promised to him prior to embarking on the trip.

He showed the instructors what he had learned as a basis, and was told it was "Canadian Kung-fu". the funny thing after he had showed them some pictures from the school, the teachers at the school pointed to one of the pictures from the club, and became exited, exclaiming that the person was "famous". He was treated a little different after that, and was told that the style was now good.

At this time he decided that this was not the experience that he wanted, and toured instead...but no refund.

An interesting lesson to be learned for those who wish to study in China.

Or to be more cautious when looking to go to a foreign country where one probably did not do enough research into this Shaolin training plan.

"Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. Put water into a tea pot, it becomes the tea pot. Now water can flow, or it can crash. Be water my friend."

He did research, but you can only find out what others will tell you, and what others may print. It can be hard enough to do "enough" research on local schools, let alone in another country.

Just sharing information from his experience, as often people dream of "training at the Shaolin Temple".

Spread the word (no offense thro), unless you want to improve on your contemp wushu forms, China might be a good place to futher improve as they are always improving on their contemp art.

If you are looking for authentic art, search around your region, you might find 1 shifu staying just next to you :P
