shotokanwarrior Posted April 18, 2003 Posted April 18, 2003 I was wondering if anyone trains on makawari? Where Art ends, nature begins.
chh Posted April 18, 2003 Posted April 18, 2003 I do...we have a couple standing ones at the dojo, and I have one of those wall mounted ones at home (although that one doesn't get much use because the noise upsets my dog).
Radok Posted April 18, 2003 Posted April 18, 2003 i put one in my yard this week. If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point. Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.
SaiFightsMS Posted April 18, 2003 Posted April 18, 2003 I have a punching bag rather than a makiwara.
theswarm Posted April 19, 2003 Posted April 19, 2003 what's a makiwari? is that like a human sized punching bag?
Radok Posted April 19, 2003 Posted April 19, 2003 no it's a springy board in the ground with rope wraped around it for padding. It conditions your hands. I have that, a heavy bag, and a bucket of sand to punch into for my hand conditioning.(I'm training my hands to break a brick with a reverse punch.) If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point. Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.

hobbitbob Posted April 19, 2003 Posted April 19, 2003 Makiwara mounted to wall in basement, and wavemaster standing bag. There have always been Starkadders at Cold Comfort Farm!
