I have decided on a style from my local schools. I got it down to Soo Bahk Do (formerly Tang Soo Do), and Okinawan Kempo. In the end I chose Okinawan Kempo. The school has a good reputation and they have gotten awards for their teaching and they promote self-defense and not the sport of competition. If I want to, they also teach Tai-chi. The price is not bad either except for the first month. You get two one hour private lessons for $49.50 and then when you start classes with everyone else it is a yearly fee of $35 and with it you get discounts on books, equipment, video, uniforms, etc. and it is $53.50 per month for the kempo. If you take kempo and tai-chi it is a discount and there is also a family discount.

Thanks for everyone that gave their input of helping me know about the styles.

Sounds like you made a good choice. Once you get your sea legs with the Kempo, I'd seriously recomend you consider the Tai Chi as well. It will improve your practice of any martial art, as well as your life in general.

Best of luck on your journey!
