TJS Posted April 21, 2003 Posted April 21, 2003 OK, let's get back to the original question: In another thread he said Okinowan karate was superior to MMA so I was simply looking for clafication as to why he would wan to "Mix" martial arts if one was superior to that.wing chun and muay thai to form a striking fusion along with bjj. what do people reckon of this? Yes Muay thai/boxing or Muay Thai/wing chun would be a hard combo to beat if it was combined with BJJ.....Muay thai/BJJ is proababaly one of the most proven combos out there.
Treebranch Posted May 6, 2003 Posted May 6, 2003 I agree with TJS, Muay Thai and BJJ are one of the most proven combos for competition fighting. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
Kaju_influenced Posted May 6, 2003 Posted May 6, 2003 I agree with JJF i am currently practicing kajukenbo and ahve tasted silat with sifu dan and they are very practical MM "Sweat more in the dojo, bleed less in the street"Kajukenbo fighters axiom.
Treebranch Posted May 6, 2003 Posted May 6, 2003 My buddy said Kajukenbo was used by the Mafia in Hawaii, and is very dirty. I was showing him some Budo Taijutsu techniques and he really like them, he has studied Kajukenbo in Hawaii for many years. I think it's good to look at all martial arts to see the similarities and differences. MMA fighters are the best in the world...because they take what works and get rid of the rest. MMA are not the best fighters in the world - they are usually the most arrogant though. Its a pity this attitude lingers. More often than not they get weeded out by traditional teachers for having the wrong attitude. Look at fighters like Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Chuck Norris. All TMA artists. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless--like water.
TJS Posted May 31, 2003 Posted May 31, 2003 MMA are not the best fighters in the world Yes..they are..simple as that..if there was peopel out there who could beat them they would do so...why not make a quick 150k every month if they can. This is the part where you tell me about all of the secret monks, ninjas, masters etc who are either A) too deadly to compete in the ring B)have no desire to compete C) it's against their "beliefs" to do such things. they are usually the most arrogant though lets no make sweeping generalizations or anything...Look at fighters like Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Chuck Norris. All TMA artists Do you really consider jet li and jackie chan great fighters? sure i like their movies as much as the next but to think they would do anything other than get beaten bloody against todays fighters is VERY Naive. Btw Chuck Norris has belt in BJJ and has made comments on how he respects that the most because of what it takes to get one.
Tamojin Posted May 31, 2003 Posted May 31, 2003 Yes I think Jackie Chan and Jet Li are amazing fighters - there are plenty of anecdotes of Jackie being challenged and winning. And Jet Li won scores of full contact wushu - thats how he got discovered. It does appear we are at opposite ends and will never agree. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless--like water.
TJS Posted May 31, 2003 Posted May 31, 2003 so you think that Jet li/Jackie Chan could win in todays NHB/MMA world?
Radok Posted May 31, 2003 Author Posted May 31, 2003 Maybe they could if they were still in they're prime. They kinda retired from serious competition you know. If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point. Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.
TJS Posted June 1, 2003 Posted June 1, 2003 Maybe they could if they were still in they're prime. They kinda retired from serious competition you know. no they would both get smashed up against the cage and beaten bloody...they are great actors and very cool guys...they are not top quality NHB fighters..end of story.
