TJS Posted April 19, 2003 Posted April 19, 2003 Sorry but not against a younger, stronger, opponent with equal skill, just not going to happen. I state again there are very few exceptions to this, but there are some so the old Tai Chi master would do any better against a younger stronger Thai Fighter of the same skill level?? No
DokterVet Posted April 19, 2003 Posted April 19, 2003 When people are pushing and shoving you, the adrenalin (fight or flight) is pumping around your body and there is no time for consious thoguh you just have to ask and if you think your gonna start prouncing round jabbing the guy well, what more is there to say. --------------------------------------------------------------------- No time for conscious thought in a fight, huh? Well maybe that's why boxing and EVERY SINGLE OTHER MARTIAL ART's goal is to work on instinct and muscle memory. 22 years oldShootwrestlingFormerly Wado-Kai Karate

Ghost Posted April 22, 2003 Author Posted April 22, 2003 Sorry guys but the age discussion is dumb. A younger guy at his peak will be better but older people can still fight, just not as well as the younger ones. Put it like this, if you ask the old guys they will most likely say they are good but not as good as they were when they were younger. You have to go over that hill at some point and there is no point pretending that it doesnt happen to everyone. Still think boxing is being underestimated out there just from the posts on this topic. Im dissapointed i must say but i guess htats just how boxing is seen. Im sure you will all learn one day, the hard way.
mikS Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 Ya.....muay thai practitioners can throw a pretty damn hard punch!
thai_boxer_no.1 Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 yeh i agree as im a muay thai practishoner and i have a heck of a hard punch ( not meaning 2 sound modest) but ghoast i agree with u ! in some points ! but my cousin box's and i spa with him and my punches are more effective and they can 'adapt' but this takes time 4 it 2 set in that we kick as hard as we punch !
Ghost Posted April 24, 2003 Author Posted April 24, 2003 Yes i understand about kicking as hard as you punch im a thai boxer too not a boxer.
StephenBaker Posted April 27, 2003 Posted April 27, 2003 My personal experience has been that many boxers with whom I have trained are well conditioned to getting hit. To me, that counted for quite a bit. I remember being shocked the first time I took a real shot to both the body and head. Being able to focus after taking a shot and still keep going strikes me as particulary useful. Just my two cents. Regards Stephen Baker
Kamidake Posted April 27, 2003 Posted April 27, 2003 Yes! If you have never been hit before, the first time you will be shocked, and pause, giving the bad guy an opportunity to hit you again. So I think everyone should learn how to be hit (preferably not the way I learned, the hard way, but in a safe dojo setting). Here is an additional boxing question. Every time a boxer dies in the ring there are calls to ban the sport. Has a martial artist ever been killed in organized competition? Have there ever been efforts to ban competitive martial arts? If so, where, when, and what happened?
Ghost Posted April 28, 2003 Author Posted April 28, 2003 In Thai Boxing there are about 7 deaths in the ring each year but no one has tried to ban it.
