omnifinite Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 Omnifinite The posts are all by the same people pretty much. About 4 different people.Did you do a search on previous boxing threads? A couple weeks of posts probably isn't all that indicative of the overall attitude of the forum. 1st Dan HapkidoColored belts in Kempo and Jujitsu
jmy77 Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 Effectiveness of a martial art is dependent on the user. MA, and this includes boxing, is a tool. Boxing like any MA can be either extremely effetive or absolutely useless. It depends on the quality and desire of the person using it. Ghost, Though this thread is good - you are going to get a lot of the - your MA sux my MA is the best. a few months ago, when I joined this forum, it was a few MT guys absolutely bashing karate. That, thankfully has seemed to fade out. There are too many people who either fail to see or open their eyes enough to realize that anything can be effective. Boxing is a great art - how can it not be? It teaches the most basic techinque - Punching! If you can't punch you are in trouble. SO what it has holes - name one MA that doesn't. Even MAs that are hybrid and mixed are missing something somewhere, everything in this world can be improved upon. All MAs have their merits. This art bashing is garbage. jmy77 Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 No one in particular, but you see it a lot around here and to be honest no one has yet to make a decent arguement as to why a style is ineffective. Treebranch Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 All styles of fighting are effective, but some are more effective than others. Some are easier to learn, but limited, and some are limitless. jmy77 Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 I agree some are easier to learn then others but all are limitless. Boxing, by itself only has a set number of punches but the combinations and other little things such double pumping your shoulder and a head fake or changing the direction of the strike in mid throw etc... these are where boxing is limitless there are as many sets of combinations as your can dream up... Treebranch Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 Well as we have seen Boxers peek out, and the same with a lot of sport arts, they age out. They simply don't have the athleticism to continue being proficient fighters. In other words it's a young mans sport, there are exceptions of course. There are MA's that the practitioner gets better as you get older and can continue doing them when your older, these are limitless, you be the judge of which these are. Synaesthesia Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 A lot of old people could take out most young-uns, but there's a reason we talk about the 'prime' of a fighter's career.
