Guest
Hobbitbob: That is not at all what I was getting at . I don't practice TKD, either. I was just curious because fireka mentioned his competition victories, and I know that he has only been with a dojo for a week or so. The only reason why I would elect to speak up about this is because if indeed he is exagerating his accomplishments, the place to do it would not be in the McDojo thread. We've got some former TKDs in our dojo and they got some skills too.
fireka
i used to box. there are many open comps now that allow boxers to compete, being knocked over by the kick of a karateka is what really got me intrested in the martial arts. i was never all that good. but have yet to be defeated by a tae-kwon-do artist. However, i do apologize for a statement that it might have offended some ppl. but i stand by my hatred for korean arts, as it roots from a persoanl experinse i am not aloud to discuss. FlailingLimbs
Fire Ka, I can understand your dislike of korean arts. I have had experiences as well, and do not wish to discuss them. I think the guy who did the mcdojo/bullshido.com website has as well, selling t-shirts that have the slogan "taekwondont". Please people, I ain't saying "TKD SUKS KARATE AND BJJ ROOLS YOU (whatever)", I'm just explaining that many have had bad experiences with Korean systems, and even Japanese/American systems as well. ===================When cornered, kick 'em in the spetznats. If that doesn't work, run around acting like an epilept + flail your arms about while whizzin' in your pants, then fall down foaming at the mouth. They'll be so disgusted THEY will walk away from the fight....
Guest
Fireka: I appologize doubting your accomplishments. I did not know you boxed. I should know better. I can understand how a TKD practitioner whould be at a disadvantage in a boxing match IF they are inexperienced with boxing. Most TKDers I've sparred with tend to use thier legs most of the time, and thier arms are pretty much just crossed defensively across the chest. fireka
yes, but certain forms of karate and alot of the chinese style artist (mainly wu-shu, hope i spelled that right) could knock a boxer flat. But back to the mcdojo thing. I agree with karate womans concept completely, i just wonder what my sensai would think of me starting a school were i was getting paid to teach. of course, i wonder make sure i was properly qualified first, and of course i would treat my student like students and not like little Rocky Balboas that we have to trap in a contract and exploit. But i keep thinking of what he said his sensai told him ' do not comercialize this art'. of course, i wouldnt start my own dojo for sometime yet, and probably not in the region im in now. Rich_2k3
I agree that mcdojos are very wrong, they dont just dishonour your MA but they are also dangerous, for example a kid who goes to one of these mcdojos, learns a few techniques from his "expert" sensei and finds himself in a fight one night, he tries to use them and gets his head kicked in because what he was taught was wrong . Although i'm not saying that all dojos are like this, infact its probably only a small fraction that are, but it pis**s me off that it happens, and guess what at the end of the day it all comes down to money. Guest
People don't like TKD because they feel that it is somehow a cheapened version of karate, and offerns no real self defense value. I'm not saying I agree with this statement as I don't want to start a flame war -- but I think this is what it's about.
