TKD is an art. JKD is a philosophy. Take the art and apply the philosophy if you want to.

Imagination is more important than knowledge.

Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world." Einstein

Try and see which martial art is more in tune with your personality (look at a good number of martial arts, not just a couple). Then, go with the one that best suits you.

TKD works for me but you might want something else. tkd is 80% kicking so if you want that. it isn't going to help you too much in a real fight b/c kicking them in the head might not be an option. it is very fun for me but that might be due to the instructor and the people that i take class with. good luck with everything.

why not

because its very difficult to find a good JKD school since its really a philosophy

If you're new then I'd say TKD. JKD is more of a philosophy/concept/method of fighting, not an actual style. Therefore in order to effectively use JKD you need to know a MA style to apply JKD's teachings to it. JKD is like spices to enhance the flavor, it won't do much to the chicken if you haven't learned how to cook a chicken yet.

"Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. Put water into a tea pot, it becomes the tea pot. Now water can flow, or it can crash. Be water my friend."

Don't know... Visit the schools first. Almost 70% of all TKD Schools are Sport. If you want self defense, then that doesn't help too much.

JKD Is something good when you have been in the martial arts for a while.
