Neil Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 I was just looking at Rocy Marciano and he is a "slugger", but I don't know what this means. Other terms are "puncher" and "boxer/puncher" as well as "swarmer" which is also what they called Rocky. Could someone please give me the names and meanings of boxing styles? thanks, Neil
fireka Posted April 12, 2003 Posted April 12, 2003 "swarmer?" i dont remebr this, and im such a big fan that my room is practically a Rocky Shrine. The only thing i remeber rocky being called is a south paul, and i can define that for you. which one did they call him a "swarmer"? "i could dance like that!.......if i felt like it...." -Master Betty
The_Ryno Posted April 13, 2003 Posted April 13, 2003 A slugger is a less technical, more brute strength fighter. Also Plodder. Example: Butterbean. Boxer(puncher too?) Would be a more technical fighter relying more on skill. Example: Bernard Hopkins, Lennox Lewis, and Ali. I don't recall who called Marciano a swarmer, but it does describe his ability to be all over his opponent. hope that helps.
