Anzie Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 ATM I'm doing grappling, and I really like it. At the same dojo I practice sports karate as well. Here we do learn do fight in tournaments and we only learn (mostly) tournament-techniques. I'm looking for an addition to grappling in order to have good self defence. Sports karate I can do for free in addition to grappling, and I'm considering to start Shootfighting when I'm 18, in a year. (It's a limit for some reason) Until then, should I continue with karate for self defence or do something else meanwhile. Boxing perhaps? Note that I'm looking for effective self defence. Grappling enthusiast!Shootfighting as well.
SBN Doug Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 Personally, I would drop the "sport" karate for either "true" karate or some other striking art. As others have said around the site Muay Thai or boxing would complement grappling very well. Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
Sepultura Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 Well What kind of karate r u doing??? shotokan karate? kyokushin karate?if u really want a good full-contact Martialart, try kyokushin karate and u'll never regret it.unlike other contact sports, kyokushin karate fights are bare knuckled and have very strict rules.very effective in streetfighting!!
