JohnnyS Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 Treebranch, are you saying your instructor submitted the Machado's, or their students? Who is your instructor, what is his name? BJJ - Black Belt under John Will (Machado)Shootfighting - 3rd Degree Black BeltTKD - Black Belt
goshinman Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 Treebranch, are you saying your instructor submitted the Machado's, or their students? Who is your instructor, what is his name? Ouh oh! This is gonna be good! Tapped out, knocked out, or choked out...Take your pick.http://jujitsu4u.com/http://www.combatwrestling.com/http://gokor.com/
Treebranch Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 His name is Derek Thompson he's officially 2nd Dan Budo Taijutsu, but he's probably more like 5th Dan. He's gone to a few demonstrations they had and they invited people from the crowd to spar and he did. They were very surprised that he was so hard to submit. As I said he submitted them and vice versa, why is that so hard to believe? I think it was some of the instructors as well as some of the students. JohnnyS Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 treebranch, Which Machado was it? Or was it a student? If so, what grade were they? You ask why is it so hard to believe that this guy could submit them? How about because what you're saying is nearly like saying some guy no-one has ever heard of submitted Rickson. How about because JJ Machado is considered one of the best submission grappling experts in the world, so if some guy tapped him or his brothers in a demonstration in front of a lot of people, I'd have thought more people would have heard of it. Treebranch Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 Dude, relax. I'll try to get the specifics of who it was and what demonstration. My teacher doesn't lie about stuff like that and he wasn't bragging either. He was just telling us that we should go and spar with people outside our MA to see if we're doing our techniques right. He was at some demonstration and decided to spar with them, they tend to invite people to spar with them when they do demonstrations and such. It's really not that big of a deal. It wasn't a match between anyone, it was just sparring. JohnnyS Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 Sorry, but unless you can give names etc, then I'll have to call "Bulldust". It's very easy for people to make claims about tapping other people, but to say that someone tapped a Machado in a demonstration IS a big deal. The Machados are known throught the BJJ world and were former multiple time Brazilian BJJ champions (before there were World titles). They have also placed or won at ADCC in submission grappling. I'm a black belt in BJJ. I can play with purple belts (who are themselves excellent grapplers) and do very well against brown belts. My instructor plays with me. His instructors, the Machado's, play with him. This is why I find it very hard to believe that some guy unknown to the grappling world has tapped the Machados. It was a seminar, not a grappling tourny. I'm pretty sure that the Machado in question wasn't in top condition at the time and probably didn't expect to bump into such a good grappler at a SEMINAR for cryin out loud. Now if Treebranch had said he tapped a Machado in a challenge match or a grappling tournament THEN I could see getting irate, but not over a seminar. Sheesh, Man you BJJ people are a fiery bunch aren't you? Tapped out, knocked out, or choked out...Take your pick.http://jujitsu4u.com/http://www.combatwrestling.com/http://gokor.com/
JohnnyS Posted September 18, 2003 Posted September 18, 2003 I don't believe it happened - even in training. The Machados are so far above even good black belts that I find it incredible to say the least. If it was a Machado representative, then that's different to it being one of the brothers. I await Treebranch's response. BJJ - Black Belt under John Will (Machado)Shootfighting - 3rd Degree Black BeltTKD - Black Belt
Treebranch Posted September 19, 2003 Posted September 19, 2003 You'll have to wait awhile until I can get you that information. Even when I get it I don't think you'll accept it anyway, but never the less I'll get it to you.
