What is the BJJ answer to fighting multiple opponents? It seems that if I take one person to the ground in a fight, the other one or two guys is just going to pummel me.

Since BJJ doesn't have that many standing techniques, I would say that it is probably deficient in this area.

BJJ does not claim to be able to beat multiple attackers, it is designed to fight 1 vs 1 but i think it gives you the best chance if thats the case.

I dont think it's complete by itself butatleast it dosent claim to be able ot do thingsit cant like 90% of the people out there.

Traditional Jujutsu is, and BJJ could be too if they made some small modifications. Anyone BJJ student that actually knows what they're doing shouldn't have a major problem with multiple attackers, at least no more than anyone else.

Venazuelo-there is not magic technique for beating multiple attackers, more of certain strategy strategy.

Like with alot of stlyes i would be more worried about not being able to beat 1 person..BJJ can pretty much garantee that at least..however

a striker with good takedown defenses has a preyy good chance at beating more than 1 Untrained person.

A devestating striker has a much better chance at winning than a grappler..that could be several stlyes..

Muay Thai

Boxing

Krav Maga

Kyokushin

A Strategy for face several oponents is to create spaces so you can escape.

Not like in the movies in which you'll square off against 4 guys with the idea of put them out.

Also, you may need a weapons. Learning how to use weapons is a big Plus when you face several oponents.

I remember a Instructor telling me that once he was in a situation in which he was about to get attacked for like 10 guys. What he did was pulling a knife and use it against the one it was near. The others, runned away fear they may get stabbed too. lol

But Still, RUN is the best thing to do.

If you can't run, try to get them all in front of you, and try to maneuver so you can get them in each other's way. Also, don't wait for them to attack...this is one instance that I believe in pre-emptive striking. :)

pulling out a knife will usually end a fight before it starts...most people dont want to risk getting stabbed...knives are very intimidating..but if you do pull one out you should be ready to use it or it might get used on you.

bjj guys are ususally pretty decent clinch fighters, and many of them also know serveral throws. Ideally, you won't want to go to the ground at all. If you do, knowledge of grappling will enable you to get up quickly and efficiently. Face facts, regardless of style, in a multi opponent situation, most people will lose. All you are doing is trying to give yourself a fighting chance. You want to run and stay alive. Going back to the grappler, his goal should be to make a hole big enough to allow him to run away. hopefully a good throw will give him that space.
