Golden Panther Posted April 5, 2003 Posted April 5, 2003 I have been interested for some time in taking Hapkido, but I am not sure what is the sanctioned Hapkido organization of the Korean government. I know the World Tae Kwon Do Federation is the one that is recognized in Korea as official for TKD. I've done some research and it still seems to be inconclusive. There is a school that has affiliation with the International Hapkido Federation and states that they are the governing body in Korea for Hapkido. Does anyone have any insight?
Golden Panther Posted April 8, 2003 Author Posted April 8, 2003 Does anyone on this forum have input into this question?
Chris from CT Posted April 8, 2003 Posted April 8, 2003 I have been interested for some time in taking Hapkido, but I am not sure what is the sanctioned Hapkido organization of the Korean government. There are two organizations that are registered through the Korean government. Korea Hapkido Federation http://hapkidokorea.org/index-start.htm This is another KHF site, but there is some discussion of it not being ligit. http://khf_hapkido.tripod.com/ Kidohae http://www.kidohae.com/ I am 85% sure that these two are the only ones registered through the Korean government. I don't believe that any of the IHFs are.I know the World Tae Kwon Do Federation is the one that is recognized in Korea as official for TKD. I've done some research and it still seems to be inconclusive. There is a school that has affiliation with the International Hapkido Federation and states that they are the governing body in Korea for Hapkido. Does anyone have any insight? To be totally honest with you, there is no one governing body for Hapkido. Unlike TKD, it's not as big of a thing as people make it out to be. There are some organizations that are registered through the Korean government and some are not. More important is who your teacher is and where they learned from. A piece of paper and someone saying, "Yeah, this person is a 'X' degree black belt" doesn't do a bit of good when someone is in your face and about to end yours or your family's life. There are a few IHF's. None are affiliated with eachother. Here are some of their websites... Bong Soo Han's IHF http://www.bongsoohanhapkido.com/ James Benko's IHF http://www.itatkd.com/ihf.html Jae Nam Myong's IHF http://www.usa-hapkido.com/ Just enjoy and learn where ever you go. KoreanTiger30 Posted April 9, 2003 Posted April 9, 2003 As far as Goverement registered organizations the KOrea Hapkido Federation is the official organization for the Korea Government. They have about 1.2 million black belts in Korea today. I am a member of the Internatinal Hapkido Federation. These federations are similiar as far as techniques go in Hapkido. IHF has new developed styles of Hangumdo, Hankido , etc. The World Kido Federation governs a majority of Korea's traditional martial art excluding Tae Kwon Do. The KHF encompasses hapkido kwans such as Jung Ki Kwan etc. I believe now the KHF has around like 73 different kwans of Hapkido in its organization. If you need more help feel free to email me. Chris from CT Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 The KHF encompasses hapkido kwans such as Jung Ki Kwan etc. Welcome aboard Allen! The KHF do have numerous kwans under their organization. Grandmaster Lim, Hyun-Soo is the head of the Jung Ki Kwan and it's not affiliated with the KHF. The organization's full name is "The Korea Jungki Hapkido & Guhapdo Association." There are other kwans in the KHF that have similar names to it, so it is easily confused at times. Take care. beungood Posted April 25, 2003 Posted April 25, 2003 I would stay away from the Florida based KHF that Chris mentioned. Go through the Korean Website. Jack 2nd Dan Hapkido,Taekwondo
Golden Panther Posted April 25, 2003 Author Posted April 25, 2003 Why do you say that? What about the Florida based IHF?
Sho-ju Posted June 1, 2003 Posted June 1, 2003 Anyone here study the Christian art of Shinsei Hapkido? It's a registered organization the Korea Hapkido Federation.
Karateka_latino Posted June 1, 2003 Posted June 1, 2003 I don't know which one is the official for the Korean Goverment... The KIDO HAE is the organization reconized by the Korean Goverment for all traditional Korean Martial Arts, this doesn't include TKD.
