Is there a specific name for the wooden sword that many use to practice with?

I know the bamboo one is called a shinai but the wooden one, not sure about. Please help.

Bokken is correct. It is much more forgiven than a real sword. One wrong move with a real Samurai sword could cost you a thumb. With a bokken the same mistake would cause you to bruise.

There are more than just the bokken, there is also the Saburito which is just a much bigger bokken. 45 inches and very think and heavy, used for exersices not for combat, to heavy.

thats not all

A bokken is practically a wooden katana

A wakizashi is a wooden short sword

A tanto is a wooden knife

A wooden Daito is well, a wooden Diato

and all the others listed.

Im not quite sure what you have depending on width and lenth. :) [/b][/u]

Um.....slightly flawed answer, I believe. The tanto itself is a metal bladed 'dagger', with a wooden tanto being exactly that - a wooden tanto.

I will have to second Tobias' post. Wakizashi is the short katana. Tanto the knife. All refer to the metal bladed weapons.
