after seeing the respones on the subject of ninjitsu...........and i must say they were very interesting.

with that, .i bring the discussion here about ninja movies.

sho kosugi made a few ninja movies, return of the ninja /pray for death /etc, that had very entertaining sword play and interesting subject matter. however very predictable.

I personally don't take much thought into which actor or actress is better at Martial Arts or not. I like watching the movies to see if they are enjoyable. Most things are not very realistic but they are cool. If I was made to choose which is the best Martial Artist, I would have to say Bruce Lee from the old school and Jet Li now.

Really, if only life were like the movies, where one guy can take on an entire crowd of "highly trained combat/fighting soldiers" all by themselves -- especially where they all "wait their turn" to attack you. Then, they throw a strike, leaving themselves open, allowing you to block it (still leaving themselves open), waiting for you to do more damage to them, whilst they are still in the original position that resulted from their failed strike.

Anyone here that would even dare and fight 30 (even untrained) large men wanting to kill you, would be a complete moron. I'd really like to see some realistic movies, but that's not going to happen. You are forced to watch tapes of some under ground fighting matches, and those usually suck too.

You're best left to just train with people and spar with them and tape that and watch yourself -- your mistakes, where you're weak, sloppy, aren't paying enough attention, think of all the alternatives you could have done and what would possibly or definitely resulted in a better technique or execution. I tape most sparring sessions and watch them when I have time, that is fun. :-)

Also, if I'm not around for a while, I'm just away training. :-)

True, fighting one against thirty is incredibly unrealistic, but we all need a bit of fantasy in our lives to entertain us. At least I do, haha. If real life were just like TV or the movies, what's the point of watching films in the first place (granted there are some people that don't like tv or film). It's all about having an escape.

Jet Li movies are so fake... I usually get a good laugh from them. Black Mask! BAHAHAHA!

Like I said, if watching real life was fun, then we wouldn't need TV.

Actually my favorite type of movie lies with action scenes which are improbable but not impossible. i.e. not flying all over the place and shooting fire from their eyes, but at the same time not just a bunch of sweaty hairy guys with broken teeth in an alley.

Jeff Speakman did some seminars in Australia a year or two ago...I love that quote S.gumby "if watching real life was fun, then we wouldn't need t.v."!

Damn, I just thought of something. How do we explain reality television? Maybe watching the stupidest, most loathesome, prettiest "real" people doing completely inane things in the name of ratings is more interesting than our own mundane existences? Oh well, who cares?
