Here's my situation: there is a place that teaches mixed martial arts. I am interested and the instruction seems great, but they don't have any female members. So if I were to join, I would be the only girl in a class full of men. Should I go for it anyway or should I find another martial art club where I would feel more comfortable/probably be more accepted?

If you really like the style, you have to go for it.

If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point.

Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.

I would say, "go for it" .... but I see you already formed an opinion that you may be uncomfortable being the only girl, and with that I say, .... you need to feel "comfortable" with the school you intend to train at, and the only way that you can find this out is if you take a class or two.

Good luck!

I'd say dig a little deeper :) Go for a class or two and see if you feel comfortable with the guys there. They could turn out great friends. and then another girl could join because you are there and then another and another. Everything has got a starting point

I trained for a few years in a group where I was usually the only female student. When white belts step into the dojo they are all beginners and equal in status.
