I am new and am planning on beginning in Martial arts. My city is not huge so I am limited in the styles. The best schools in my city have Kempo, Soo Bahk Do, they also have Taekwondo but this school is geared for children and not adults. There is almost no adult classes, but the couple they have are day classes when i am at work.

I would like to hear what people think that know on these styles

I would choose Kenpo out of those stlyes, but honestly alot depends on the school, just make sure it's not a Mcdojo and the instructor is the real deal.

I'd choose kempo too, simply because I've heard such great things of it.

I agree however it depends on ur needs, Kicking, energy, what du u want to do thats whats important. Kempo is a very roundbased style, very direct but most lack different other kinds of fighting proficiencies. I.E im currently doing Kajukenbo which contains Tang soo do, judo, jujitsu, kempo and chinese boxing and because of such a mixture i find it very fullfilling as a whole martial art but i still crosstrain in JDK for its ranging and close quarters fighting aspect capoeira for its streetching routine and dynamics of the style so u see its about what u think will fullfill u as a whole martial artist. :D

I don't know anything about Soo Bahk Do. But I study American Kenpo, and it is very well rounded and effective. However, there are many different styles of Kenpo/Kempo. What style, or styles, are in your area? And what are their parent affiliations or lineage?

i have also heard a lot of good things about kenpo and am considering it myself. here is a thread about kempo that karatekid1975 gave me.

to thesod_88: how can you recomend something when you dont know what it is. you seem to have a bad attitude towards many styles. no style is horrible, they just have their differences. maybe for your goals it is not the best style but for others it may be what they are looking for. i'm sorry if it sound like i have someting against you but i just think you should not post comments like that, on my thread or anyone else's. just keep it to yourself next time, thank you. please do not take this offensively or as hate mail.

Don't worry, I don't take very many things personally, but ive had hands on experiance, so i do know what im talking about and i am elligible to make whatever kind of comment i want on kempo cause ive tried it. but if i hadent tried it before, u would be right. oh well, honest mistake on ur part. no biggie!

No such elligiability excists I am afraid, especially in this form. Honest debate, ofcourse, is always welcome. However, to what degree did you study Kempo to achieve this level of "psuedo" elligiability?
