Iron Arahat
We all train in different styles, and many style teach self defense from things such as knives. What do you feel about the training you have recieved (if any)? Has anyone ever had to deal with an edged weapon attack? What happened? Has anyone seen the movie "Surviving Edged Weapons" by Calibre Press... Pangamut
I've seen that tape. If I remember correctly it has Dan Inosanto attacking some officers and Leo Gaje demonstrating some knife attacks. It makes some good points.
Iron Arahat
Yeah the Dan Insanto bit shows that a gun is great if you can get it out of your holster... Hokori
We rarely did defense from weapons but we have once done defense from a knife and i think a gun without using a weapon. Hokori
Mr. Mike
I guess the first thing to keep in mind in a knife altercation is to accept that you will get cut. I've no formal training, but I work with some of the local PD when they stop in...I feel confident, but also hope it never ever happens. Hokori
If someone grabbed you from behind holding a knife to your neck, what would you do? Hokori
FireWolf
ive got a few nice scars from guys starting fights with a knife.they soon found out that i dont play around like that and found them selves stabed with there own knives.its sad that people dont fight with honor anymore. if your going die,why not die doing what you love
swdw
Many techniques taught seem to work because you aren't practicing against a trained knife fighter (unless you're in the FMA).I'd rocommend getting a video from the following site on knife fighting:http://www.nononsenseselfdefense.com/booksvideos.htmlI'd invite someone trained in silat/kali to workout with you. You'l find out just how well what you've learned works.I'm not in an FMA, so I'm not saying this from being prejudiced. You may think, yeah, but what's the chance of meeting someone trained in FMA like knife fighting? If you are in a large city, better than you think as gangs are adopting and learning these knife fighting techniques.
