The revolver is idiot proof. All you have to do is pull the trigger where As a semi can jam.

Ignoring the hammer, which yuo addresssed in your selection, but is otherwise a jam concern, the cylinder can also befoul. Generally, the only instance where a automatic is likely to jam is if it's inside something (slee, pocket, etc) when fired, or under very dirty conditions.

know fellas that carry their glocks loaded but that scares me for some reason. They think its safe but I wonder. If you leave a cylinder empty under the hammer it can never go off.(In a revolver)
Depends on what you are afraid of. if you are afraid of "tapping" the hammer and causnig a discharge; you've already made that realistally impossable by using a concealed-hammer revolver... further, the drop-safety on a Glock (the weapons you mentioned as an automatic) makes that impossable.

If you are worried about the trigger fowling and cycling the gun, then you need to clear one round clockwise on the cylinder... either way, you've dropped one round from an already limited supply of ammo.

I understand what he was saying about semi autos jamming. My Baretta 9000S will not fire with Magtech Ammo. It will jam everytime. If it was a revolver I wouldn't have that problem. Don't get me wrong I only own semi-autos but they have more mechanic parts that can malfunction. But on the other side of the coin both my Sigs have thousands of rounds through them and I've never had a jam.

My quick 2 cents: A cane.

Like someone mentioned before: Isn't illegal, won't accidentally kill you (or them), and isn't obviously "a weapon". Carrying around a katana or pair of sai may be somewhat.. obvious? :)

Plus, with a Hapkido background (as well as many others I'm sure.. I just don't know), a cane becomes a very effective weapon.

Actually, a cane can be illegal. Some justictions (California I understand is one) progibit the carrying of anything which is intended to be used as a weapon. The axiom there is you can ccarry a baseball bat, but only if you also cary a glove and ball.

On the other end of the scale, some states (mine) allow the carrying of a firearm without permit; and the carrying of a concealed firearm (or any other elgal weapon) with permit.

Where I live handguns are illegal. I haven't even heard of anyone that owns a real one. Cops carry them, and I think people in the military can be certified to own them, but I'm sure it's pretty restricted.

The only guns around here are hunting rifles and shotguns, and the chances of someone confronting you on the street with one of those is next to nil. I'm all for gun control. The worst I'd have to worry about being attacked with would be a knife.

There was one guy a little while ago who called 911 saying that he was going to go kill all the men his wife is sleeping with, with a shotgun, but he was caught (he was shooting at cops even) and got in a very large amount of shit.

Anyway, considering where I live and the circumstances, the best weapon for me to carry would be my hands, feet, and common sense.

I also like the cane thing, I believe I will probably need one in the near future with the condition my knees are in now anyway. I don't see how it could be illegal to have a cane, as long as you are actually using it (or even pretending to use it) for what it was made for. That and you can buy them anywhere.

most weapons are illegal where i live

the cylindrical part of my bike lock would be a good weapon,

a tightly rolled up newspaper can be used as a weapon

I still strongly believe a firearm is the best weapon.

But the availablity of a firearm is very good. In fact a few are within an arms reach of me almost at all times.

I think either a pistole or knife would be the best, as long as you have a permit to concele(sp?) them.
