THis topic may start a big debate but I'm starting it anyways because I want to know your views on this topic. What do you feel is the effective self defense weapon that you can "legally" carry on you concealed?

I personally feel that a small handgun is the best. I personally carry sometimes. I'm legally liscenced for concealed carry. I believe that the firearm is the best weapon (when used properly) for self defense purposes.

However, depending on the situation I feel Mace may be a better weapon because of the nonlethal consequence except that people build a tolerance to this and many criminal are barely effected by it. People can't build a tolerance to gun shot wounds.

What do you, or would you carry for self defense. Besides the obvious of your hands and feet. Would you carry a gun, knife, club, mace, or other? Be realistic also. You can't conceal a samurai sword or a bo staff...

I think the perfect self defense weapon is a 5 shot 38 revolver.Hammerless.Titanium would be nice for the wife's purse.

Your shots will be at 20 feet or less.Think their gonna star makin a 45acp revolver also which would be nice too.

The revolver is idiot proof. All you have to do is pull the trigger where As a semi can jam.I know fellas that carry their glocks loaded but that scares me for some reason. They think its safe but I wonder. If you leave a cylinder empty under the hammer it can never go off.(In a revolver)

Pump shotgun with bird shot for home defense. The bird shot won't go far or penetrate your neighbors house & that shucking sound is understood by every one.Even those that live in canada.

I have a small jitte-personally machined for me by a student to fit my small size. I have never had to use it. If I could carry a firearm I would.

I agree that if you use a firearm in a self defense situation it will be in close range. If it is further than 10 feet or so you should be able to leave the situation. Providing your attacker doesn't have a firearm. As for the revolver vs. semi auto it is a good point the revolver won't jam. A revolver without an external hammer is good because it won't snag as easily on your pants if it is in your pocket. Reloading a revolver takes more time but chances of firing more than 2-3 rounds is highly unlikely. I personally carry a Baretta 9000S compact in .40. I like the size and feel of the gun and I can fairly easily conceal it.

This thread is very similar to one we already have going here with regards to the best weapon for a streetfight http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=3553

... I'm thinking that is basically a "self defense" situation isn't it??

So with that said I would have to go with Ti-Kwon-Leap's answer which was

"The most effective weapon? Can't be banned, confiscated, disarmed, or checked at the door. Won't get you arrested for carrying. Ready at an instant. Carrying a weapon is not a realistic option for most people in modern civilized society." ... esecially in UK for example where it is illegal.

I can't be arrested for carrying a gun as I am liscenced to do just that. But if I were to pull it on someone because someone called me a name or something of that nature I would certainly be arrested.

Concealed carry is still illegal in my state, but I will be amongst the first in line when it is passed.

For now, it is situation dependant, but usually is a small pocket stick (chizukenbo/koppo stick) and a can of good OC.

... And a Spyderco :)

When I am heavily restricted by what I can carry, I go with either a 2AA Maglite (if I had a surefire, that would be better) a sturdy pen, heavy belt, and a good pair of shoes.

If I had a CCW permit, I would still carry the light and OC in addition. Prolly the Spyderco too.

I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
