KickChick Posted March 27, 2003 Posted March 27, 2003 I've read this book by Jerry Van Cook where he explained this "new wave of self defense" that has occured here (in US) in the last few years at least. This new wave of martial arts stresses "true" combat over art and sport, fighting over system. This new wave of thinking recognizes that the vast majority of men and women who enter a dojo are now doing so with the serious goal of leaning to defend themselves and not to win trophies or to learn a new hobby.
tommarker Posted March 28, 2003 Posted March 28, 2003 Silat can only become more and more popular in the US. It's gaining popularity now, but I think it will be the next BJJ in the eyes of a lot of people. I don't mean that as a slight to either BJJ or Silat... I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
