O Sensei Morihei Ueshiba.

 

Other than being a man of great spiritual strength, this could only be dwarfed by his martial prowess over eastern asia until his death in 1969. Being one of the first great masters to practice a few techniques well rather than over loading yourself with thousands of techniques. During his youth accomplising physical feats of strength that amaze me and levels of conditioning unheard of in todays modern world. Taking decades to refine one technique before moving on to the next. Not a man to shy away from a challenge from any quater, he and his students defeated some of the best from the Kodokan and Kosen Judo, as well as Karatedo, Kempo, various Kung Fu practioners and Western Wrestlers.

The cool thing about Bruce Lee is that he built up his muscles using almost exclusively his own body weight. Not going out to the gym to pump iron like a madman. :o :)

By the way: It was my understanding that Bruce Lee was an advocate for weight training. In fact, he injured his back doing just that.

 

Although you could be right, Lee, that he focused more on body weight training.

 

Either way, there are definately guys out there who were known more for their conditioning (including skin hardening, etc) than Lee. Lee was famous for other reasons that were mentioned in the post about him. But there is no doubt his overall fitness was legendary.

Prehaps not very well known martial artist but he deserves to be, all round extream hard man. Always been a brawler (but a good one, not a bully), judo from aged 7, then boxer, then karate (not sure of his dan grade) also holds black belts in other martial arts.

 

Was a british Para (ultra hard airborn combat group ((the SAS are para's with brains, errr no offence Paddy or any other paras)) but was thrown out for being too violent.

 

Started to get into breaking records some of which I'll list here, (you won't belive some of these)

 

4,100 push ups with a 50 lb [22.68 kg] plate weight on his back approx 15 a minuite!!

 

8,794 one-armed pressups in 5 hours:

 

5,000 situps with a 50 lb plate weight in 5 hrs!!

 

1 mile with a 40 lb weight in a backpack 6:56 min!!

 

Full contact karate monthly sparring record: 467 full contact rounds (in 23 days)

 

World United Martial Arts Association Warlords 100 man Kumite: 131 rounds against black belts and black belt dan grade instructors (2 minute rounds and 1 minute rest breaks)

 

fastest 110-man kumite karate: defeated 110 opponents in full-contact rounds in 3:08 min
