Treebranch
In a real fight a high kick is very risky. It is very easy to counter high kicks. A quick and effective kick is a front, mid to low kick to the torso or hip or groin area. It is very easy to take your balance away from a kicker ,your leg is so high up and your balance is not solid. Also if you see a kick starting to happen, move offline at a 45 degree angle front or back, preferrably front and you'll choke his kick. A moving target is harder to hit. If you guys are taking in terms of competition, still keep this in mind. Withers M.A.A.
As a TKD stylist we love when people move when we throw a kick. That is what we want. We throw a kick to get a response and follow it up as they move. Usually our first kick is just a diversion so you move in that 45 degree angle so we set you up and hit you with the next kick. 2nd Degree black belt in Kenpo Karate and Tae Kwon Do. 1997 NASKA competitor-2nd place Nationally in Blackbelt American Forms. Sorry to say, but I studied TKD and it's pretty much a sport. If you up against some average Joe that might work. A diversion kick is a bad idea in a combat situation. Never waste a kick, make sure you can hit your target or it could mean a world of hurt, just friendly advice.
