paisley Posted March 19, 2003 Posted March 19, 2003 I suppose this is this best place for me to post since I live in Japan. I am considering entering my 4 year old son in MA. I was wondering what your opinions are of entering him in judo vs another form of Japanese MA, but not kendo, it is too expensive my friends tell me. Also, do you find judo is a valid form of self-defense or is it just a sport?
BKJ1216 Posted March 19, 2003 Posted March 19, 2003 I think you would be better off postin this in the grappling arts section. White Belt- Shudokan Karate
paisley Posted March 20, 2003 Author Posted March 20, 2003 Oh, sorry, I thought I was in the Japanese MA section. I must have hit the wrong button. I will repost. Thank you.
superleeds Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 Your son should try Chito-Ryu karate. a well rounded and aggressive style. Read a book!
Kensai Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 Probably Judo, they have a lot of experience in teaching the young ones. Just watch out of "Black Belt Clubs".
karatekid1975 Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 We have a style vs style section. I'll move it there so you can find more about them Laurie F
BKJ1216 Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 hey kensai whats "Black Belt Clubs" ? White Belt- Shudokan Karate
Kyle-san Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 Yeah, if you find a judo club that has a children's class you should definately sign your son up for it. I mean, what kid wouldn't like the chance to roll around and "wrestle" for an hour or so?
paisley Posted March 21, 2003 Author Posted March 21, 2003 Kyle, your answer sold me. I am not into MA myself but I do know my son enough to know "rolling around on the floor and wrestling" is just up his alley. I think we will give judo a try. If he then gets serious about MA, I might move him on to another form of MA when he is older. Thank you and I thank everyone else for their useful input as well.
