DokterVet
Hi, I'm a karateka, and I've been hearing a lot about cutkicks on this board, and I'm not sure to what this term refers. A brief description, or perhaps a comparison to a similar karate technique (if it exists) would be much appreciated. Thanks. 22 years oldShootwrestlingFormerly Wado-Kai Karate

monkeygirl
I have heard of a cut kick described like this (however, this could be different from the MT cut-kick since I study TKD): A cutkick starts off like a high roundhouse kick, and then changes direction. Instead of coming across, it "cuts" diagonally downward, sort of like a knife "slash" or "cut" It's a good fake kick, but a little difficult to actually hit with. I find it to be an awkward kick. Note: this isn't a kick that my dojo actually practices...someone showed it to me once. Not sure where they learned it from. 1st dan & Asst. KickChick
Actually I believe .... kickboxers, when blocking a low roundhouse kick, use this "cut kick" You begin by first lifting your leg to block opponents strike with the your knee or shin. What you are attempting to do is to get your opponent to raise their own leg block, (begins with a couple of roundhouses to the outside of opponents thigh and they then begin to raise their leg to block for next kick) then the kicking leg is brought up underneath the raised leg to strike opponents standing leg. So in effect your kicking leg passes under their block (or strikes near their blocking foot and pushes through) to their support leg. You can then use your leg to throw them off of their feet. http://216.40.249.192/s/contrib/Bizkit/patty.gif
NinjaMaster
The cut kick is a modified round house. You kick upwards instead of coming in from the side and then fold inwards at the last moment allowing you to hit the ribs. Effective against thos with a tight guard as it allows you to get under the elbow. It is very VERY fast. try it you should be able to do it in about 10 goes. Northren Ogre
We practice Cut-kicks as a low round house that strikes the thigh using the blade of the shin. This is in San shou. http://prkickboxing.tripod.com
BlackBeauty
Sounds like a run-of-the-mill thai kick. That is, there is *no* pivot, and it cuts down into their quads or calves. ==================http://come.to/BlackBeauty==================
BlackBeauty
Excerpt from: http://stickgrappler.tripod.com/mt/kk3.html One of our gym's favorite "tricks" is what we refer to as the "submarine kick", and other gyms refer to as a "cut kick". The proper way to block a low roundhouse kick is to raise you leg and block with the knee/shin. The idea is to sucker your opponent into raising the leg block, then bringing the kick underneath the raised leg to strike the support leg. To set this up, you can throw 1 or 2 roundkicks to the outside or your opponents thigh so that they will automatically raise the leg to defend when they see you bringing the next kick. Step more deeply and get down low so that your kicking leg passes under their block (or strikes near their blocking foot and pushes through) to their support leg. You should try to use your leg to "scoop" them off of their feet. You can also use your swing arm to help them by pushing them across your kicking leg. If done correctly, your opponent will perform a lovely cartwheel in the air, landing on their head. ==================http://come.to/BlackBeauty==================
