Are we being philosophical OR are we finding excuses why we shouldn't reach our full potential. The body is a temple and should be treated as one and the mind should be cultivated. One cannot be mentally and emotionally balanced if the body is fat and lazy. Strengthen the body and the mind!

Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward,

Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both,

For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, If I live I will kill you, If I die you are forgiven.

When it comes to attaining excellent fighting efficiency, the best combination is not a sound mind and a sound body, but (1) a sounder mind and a sound body. This translates into superior fighting skills and experience which the mind must be in control as well as the mind set to win against all odds and a well-conditioned body to carry out its commands.

Undesirable combinations are the following: sound mind and weak body, sound body and weak mind, a weak mind and a weak body. But the worse of all combinations is a weaker mind and a weak body.

what about weaker mind and weaker body ?? As in coach potato who does nothing but watching TV??

From my experience , there are top fighters who are all about physical strength , and there are other top fighters that combine agilty and power with mental strength , both types are doing fine .

There si also fighting spirit , after all its not the size of the dog in the fight , it's the size of the fight in the dog

That is only true in sayings. Realistically that is very wrong. your mind can tell your body whatever it wants, but it your body is incapable of doing it, then it will never happen.

Actually martial arts are 75% conditioning 25% skill. Most people can only put up a fight for about a minute and then their spent. Preparing yourself for the worst means reaching your bodies full potential.

That is only true in sayings. Realistically that is very wrong. your mind can tell your body whatever it wants, but it your body is incapable of doing it, then it will never happen.

Thats true an i totaly agree with your statement, however your mind properly prepares your body for what it needs. Also your mind lets your body have an easier time with the situation by being calm and not tring to use all your energy into a fury of attacks. So i think the outcome on the fight leans more heavily on the mental aspect more so than the physical, which only caries out what it has been programmed to(with exceptions of course).

This ratio may apply when one is just beginning to learn a particular martial art, but the ratio should gradually shift in favor of the physical until the latter is proportionately greater and ration goes the reverse, as one becomes an expert fighter.

Martial art is a physical art and as such it involves more of physical activity than a conscious, deliberate and calculating mental activity. The objective in developing efficiency and mastery in a physical art, like martial arts, is to make your expert and acccurate reactions to an attack in an automatic, reflexive, second-nature, habitual, subconscious and instinctive fashion, without undergoing the hassle of too much conscious thought on when and how to make them and step-by-step reasoning. Mastering a martial art is very different from mastering a science or analyzing and solving an abstract problem.

just have an equal amount of both cause yes you can will your body to do things but if you havent worked out properly its pointless its good to develop both but certin ppl tends to lean to one side or the other it depends on you as on the whole
