Mind Vs. Body

Im not on about fancy tricks im on about being able to fight with it. Being able to transfer this chi/qi whatever into every punch. Also take for instance wing chun, created by a woman. Normally women are not as muscular as men yet wing chun uses good techniques which allows people who do not have huge physical presence to take control.

sevenstar's got a point. body conditioning is very important and the mind cant tell the body to do some something that it's not conditioned to do,but the body can't be conditioned unless the mind has the WILL to put the body through a process of conditioning.

You got a good point there , and thats also why most of the people who train in a martial arts class , quit after a while , cause they don't have the WILL to continue , they just want to reach the top of the ladder

doesn't matter. where are all of these masters who can fight with it? there arne't many? wonder why? I think the whole "qi cultivation" concept has gotten out of hand, but that is a different discussion.

As for wing chun, same thing applies. There are SO MANY people who can't actually fight with it - we actually have discussions about it all the time on another forum I post on. WC guys are pointing out flaws and reasons to why so many people can't fight with it... interesting stuff.

If one can control the mind, he can control the body.

only to a point. the body has physical limitataions that the mind has no control of, hence the need to be in shape. your mind may tell your body to move faster, work harder, etc. but if you are not conditioned to do it, it will not happen.

coincidentally, I was in the gym today on my lunch break and a freind of mine was there. This man is 68 and can bench press 275. Today he made the following comment: "I'm getting old. My mind is telling me that I can lift this weight easily, but my body just can't do it; it can't keep up anymore."

I think that pretty much said it all.

most MA came about as a way for the smaller/weaker person to control the altercation. You generally don't find techniques that require brute strength or huge mass...that being said, you also shouldn't be a total ball of spam. You must condition the mind with training of all sorts, and condition the body in the same way. Wen Wu Xing. The way of the scholar warrior. Learn to be deadly with mind and body.

i am 99% percent shure the tai chi art can do what it is said. but without the physical aspect and overcoming enduring physical training, then what will happen if the said practitioner has to put him self in a capable position to function......

Sevenstar, im not saying there is a massive amount of people out there who can do WC and be brilliant at it yet there are some. And they can do it beautifully but they do not have HUGE muscles but they have conditioned bodies. I would deffinately say you would need a conditioned body but i would say bulging muscles is not gonna make you a better fighter.

Chi/qi i believe does exist. But people who say they can "summon" chi/qi to do amazing stunts i am a little bit suspicious of. But i do believe that there are people out there who have this ability to control chi/qi and use it while fighting.
