SoulAssassin Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 Anyone ever hear of Combat Ki? I was watching discovery channel and they had something called 'Combat Ki' on. I only saw people getting a 4 directional punch into the throat, a lady getting kicked in the groin area, a lady getting a hard elbow to the chest. I these are deadly moves, and i read a little on ki. All I got out of it was a certain breathing technique Anyone have comments or info on this? -SoulAssassin"I aint gonna eat, I aint gonna sleep, aint gonna breath till I see what I wanna see and what I wanna see is you goto asleep, in the dirt permanently"
monkeygirl Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 It seems rather ridiculous to me. I saw the show as well, and it claims to be good for self-defense. But, if I understand correctly, these moves take a while to "charge up" and you have to concentrate. So, how is that going to work on the street? "Hold on a minute let me start sounding like static". I just question it's practicality. If someone can prove me wrong, please do. I don't really know much about it, that's just the first impression I got from it. 1st dan & Asst. LeaF Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 take a look in our Internal Arts Forum, they are often disscussing the powers of Ki and many educated people there may be able to assisst you better Goju Ryu Karate-do and Okinawan Kobudo, 17 Years Old 1st kyu Brown Belt in in Goju Ryu Karate-do, & Shodan in Okinawan KobudoGiven enough time, any man may master the physical. Kensai Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 Combat Ki, this is an oxymoron. Ki is the spirit of the universe, central to peace and harmony. To put the word combat before it does not really make any sence at all.
ZeRo Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 ooow hasnt somebody been working hard, Kensai! i agree completely though it does sound abit rediculus
shortstick Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 I saw the show as well. I tend to agree with monkeygirl. I noticed though they were blindfolded "So they wont know when the attack is going to happen" The attack was not launched until the target person did a strong breathing tech. I found myself wondering if they must do that to take a strong shot? I will check out the internal forum to try and learn more......meet me back here with your findings "The more we change, the more we stay the same"
BKJ1216 Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 It's not just ki. They teach fighting techniques too, they just spend a lot of time on ki. White Belt- Shudokan Karate
G95champ Posted March 8, 2003 Posted March 8, 2003 IMO that is dangerous and gives MA a bad name. Its going to get someone killed. You don't take shots to the throat and walk away. Even if they have found a way to do it you don't put it on tv where every 10 year old can see it and try it. Stupid. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
Pacificshore Posted March 11, 2003 Posted March 11, 2003 Like I've said before, I don't care how much training I have under my belt, or if I think I'm "bad", or others think Im "bad", I would not let a strike or any other strike come in unabated............unless of course I'm sleeping to any part of my body Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
