psychospaz Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 Also in a self-defense situation, it looks better for you after beating someone up that you were only hitting them with you palms than with your fists. At least to the layman.
mikelw Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 Well I was over at my fried's house and saw him hitting the punching bag. I also saw him do a reverse punch, but instead of hitting with his fist he hit it with is palm. Does it hurt more if you hit them with the palm, or just whats the advantage of doing that? The advantage is that if you have unconditioned knuckles, that you don't break your hand when hitting someone.
G95champ Posted March 8, 2003 Posted March 8, 2003 Palms are great. I almost always use them over fists. When you strike with your fist its dangerous because you can jam your wrist, break fingers, etc. The palm is baisacally safe and the power it has is IMO better because you can work it at full power on things like punching bags more often. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
Beer-monster Posted March 11, 2003 Posted March 11, 2003 Open palm strikes are better than fist when striking to the face as you can cut open your own knuckles against the enemires teeth. A friend of mine did this an they got infected pretty bad (you dont know where the guys mouth has been ) The rear palm strike is also a basic kihon in Shokukai karate in set combination number 8. Front stance (Zenkutsu dachi) Rear palm thrust to face (Jodan) Teisho uchi) Step through Reverse punch (chudan gyaku tsuki) Step back in front stance fend off with left hand ( Kamae) Mind, body and fist. Its all a man truly needs.
