I dont order on the computer or on the Karate Store. anywhere. I have mines paid on my school... the belt the uniform everything. so you dont have to go to store. but you have to pay for the uniform and for the belt. in the karate school! thats how i got my Hapkido uniform.

Colors change from style to style and even school to school. I tend to find that most schools go from light to dark in color. Don't really know why but its seems to hold true.

In my particular school we use only five belts.

After we hit 1stdeg. we can wear whatever color or style of belt we wish. It really throws people off!!

red 3rd

 

red w/1 blue stripe 2nd

 

red w/2 blue stripes 1st (me!)

 

red w/3blue stripes 1st, 1st pretest for black

 

red w/4blue stripes 2nd, 2nd pretest for black

 

It is possible though, to skip red 4 and go straight for you blackbelt test since all you're doing is perfecting your motions for 5 months at that level.

The entire World Kuk Sool Won Federation uses the same system:

 

White

Black (up to 10th degree)

 

There are stripes (or tips) between each belt level. There aren't many belts compared to some other arts, but there's a whole lot to learn for each one. Also, getting from brown to black requires getting seven black stripes (I think this is standard--KSN Doug?) and testing twice (with a year between each test) after getting three black stripes.
