fskarateoz
I'm fresh from a full-contact sparring session with one of my mates from work, and i've foind something quite useful. He started attacking quite hard and fast, and got me off balance n threw a cross, but, in my off balanced state i threw a half palm-heel half knife hand to his temple n turned my head to take his cross on the side of my jaw (instead of a bare knuckle punch to my mouthgaurd, which bloody well hurts)... we hit each other at the same time, but this open handed strike of mine, which hit with the heel of the hand, was enough to make my mate see stars. All it was was the kind of movement one would make if slamming a door shut, and it was purely instinctual. I suggest anyone looking for the power of a hook with a bit more distance try this shot. I know Bas Rutten used to use it a lot in his Pancrase tournaments to good effect (they were only allowed to use open hands anyway). Just a thought on a new technique peoples. fskarateoz Edited March 4, 2003 by fskarateoz I'm a pretty straight forward guy, and people often tell me that i remind them of someone they once met... ZeRo
cant it kill to be hit hard in the temple?
omnifinite
The bone next to the eye is kind of hollow and rather weak, so it's easy to break (which can make a mess of the internal stuff next to it). I think any nice pressure point strike to the head/neck can get the stars going if you do it right. 1st Dan HapkidoColored belts in Kempo and Jujitsu

JerryLove
cant it kill to be hit hard in the temple? So I have heard, though I am aware of no specific instance of it happening. I am aware, however, of people shooting themselves in teh temple to attempt suicide, only to discover that while they have blinded themselves, they were quite alive. https://www.clearsilat.com
larryjf
You also may want to be careful about taking a punch to the jaw instead of straight on the face. It may not hurt as much, but there is more of a chance of getting knocked out from a punch to the jaw. The reason is because part of the jaw bone goes all the way up to the head, and if you're not clenching your teeth this bone can get moved and you will be directly knocked out. As long as you keep your teeth clinched you should be able to avoid this, but be careful.
Kensai
I have never used Te-gatana, in sparring (As Ki Aikido has none). But I can see the potential.
SaiFightsMS
Open-handed techniques are very traditional. And can be very powerful.
fskarateoz
I have a pretty solid jaw, and yeah i'm experienced enough to know that u have to clench your teeth... I saw it coming n rather than take it in the teeth i just turned my head sideways, cos i know my jaw is tough. The guy i was sparring had headgear on n i got him seeing stars by hitting him thru his headgear, imagine what might have happened if he hadn't had that stuff on. fskarateoz I'm a pretty straight forward guy, and people often tell me that i remind them of someone they once met... larryjf
That makes it pretty cool. I didn't know that he was wearing head gear.
