Kirves Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 I'm fully aware there are many better fighters than me And usually that really isn't even the issue. A street fight doesn't start like your average sparring session, two people facing each other starting to dance back and forth exchanging punches. In a street confrontation you may already have been taken down to grappling range when you first realize you are being attacked in the first place. Someone tackles you from behind or takes a chokehold and you don't have the choice of trying to knock him down before starting grappling...
Kyle-san Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 And usually that really isn't even the issue. In a street confrontation you may already have been taken down to grappling range when you first realize you are being attacked in the first place. Someone tackles you from behind or takes a chokehold and you don't have the choice of trying to knock him down before starting grappling... And this is the exact scenario I was hoping someone would bring up. A situation applicable to the street that makes a very good pro-grappling case as opposed to the UFC supported case that comes up so often. This is why it's completely necessary to have both good grappling and striking skills so you can at least have some idea of how to deal with random situations. Balance is necessary in martial arts.
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 HELLO why is this even a discussion grappling is very important and so is striking, this has already been debated a million times and people that say that they're art can defeat grappling are only fooling themselves "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
Radok Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 Karate can defeat jui-jitsu. jui-jitsu can also defeat Karate. depends on who trains harder. If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point. Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 WHAAAAAAAAAT I THINK NOT!!!!!! "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
