I know i'm a little late but here is my offereing,

it really depends on the situation as to how to deal with a striker. there are limitless questions and unknowns. If you want some points, here are a few basics:

A) Always keep your hands up.

B) Keep your chin down.

C) Do NOT look your opponent in the eyes - that is the easy way to decieve. Keep your eyes in the middle of your opponent's chest. When he/she throws a punch the first thing to move is the shoulder. From the shoulder the elbow will tell where the punch is going, high/low/in side/out side. ** That's where its gets tricky - if the person is a skilled striker they can change the direction of the punch in mid-throw.

So in short: Hands Up, Chin Down, Look at the Chest, the Shoulder will tell where the punch comes from, the elbow where it's going.

Remember - Defense is natural!

If you wait of you opponent to attack, you can do things depending on the attack.

For instance, if he punches you - move out(left/right) and towards(forward) his lead leg, then you can kick behind his knee and get a choke hold from behind him and finish taking him down.

if he kicks you - move out(left/right) and wait for his leg to be planted, at that moment, you will either have a clear shot at his groin or at the back of his knee again.

larry jf why wait for his kicking leg to be landed why not go for the takedown as its landing

There are many different way to take down.

But, what I was talking about was really to kick out the back of the knee for the takedown. So, if the were giving a lead kick, you would wait until that leg hits the ground, otherwise you don't have the back of the knee to kick out. But, yes you could just tackle him, or you could grab his leg and lock it down and keep him in a leg bar.

shoot down for a double knee takedown

usually boxers aren't used to punching downwards .. you should watch out for a knee to the head.

a good technique is from muay thai, bob and weave one of their punches and launch yourself towards them and when your in close quarter with your arms around em it takes a simple leg reap, hook, or a drop and their on the ground.[/code]

I just wanted to add one thing if you go for the double or single leg takedown.

these are my two favorite takedowns because i find its easiest for me to get on, the problem i had was ending up in a guillotine choke, so just remember when you shoot for a single leg to take whatever hand isnt grabbing the leg and grab high around waist or side level on him so that your bicep is pretty much covering your ear, this will stop the guillotine if they go for it or atleast render it non effective. for doubles just remember not to put your head to the side whee the can get ahold of it easily.

Not much is as aggrivating is ending up in a choke the first 20 seconds of a match because you didnt protect yourself when you went in.

If i still have all my blood it was a good fight, if not, it was a great fight.

Why not tell your instructor you're interested in knowing what to do from here. He can then take that question and make a whole class or series of classes from it.

As an instructor you can sometimes forget what people want to learn straight away, or what problems they are facing in class, so I encourage students to ask me questions.
