Hi, I am a beginner for BJJ.

 

Our dojo mainly teach us ground-fight

 

I know that they know how to take down

 

but may teach me much later.

 

I appreciate their technique but

 

I just want to know some more

 

because I usually spar with my friend

 

under no-rule. Just for fun :)

 

What points we should be careful if I would like

 

to go into Take-down?

 

What method of Take-down can I choose?

I've taken a liking to the double leg, but you have to shoot in quick and you either go for it or don't go for it. For the double leg, shoot in and place your lead foot/knee in the centre of the opponent inbetween his feet, underhook the back of his legs with your hands and put your head up high to avoid being choked. Then lift both his legs up to the one side (you lift them sideways and up) and push with your head and foot that's not in the centre of your opponent in the opposite direction

 

Try throwing a jab at his face, then shooting in on him. Or, as he throws a jab, shoot it then - his arm will be extended and he won't be able to sprawl.

 

Work for the clinch position with him by closing the distance and working angles, if you can clinch him, there's a whole heap of take downs you can get to working. A simple one is underhooking both his arms and clasping one of your hands in the palm of your other hand, then hooking your leg around his leg & walking forward as you pull your hooked leg back.

There are always two choices, two paths. One choice is easy and its only reward is it's easy.


It takes sacrifice to be the best.

Depends on the striking system,

 

If it was a Karate Practioner, I would try and enter more go for the legs or lead the fist into something. This is because I think they are more proficient at medium distances so getting in trapping range would be better for me.

 

If it was a Mauy Thai practioner, then I would say the opposite applies, they are more gifted in the trapping/close range department. So keeping my distance, I would probably go for Ippon Seoi Nage(Judo) or Irimi Nage, Kokyu Nage and Tenchi Nage (Aikido).

protect your face! and if hes a mt fighter lets say, i wouldn't go for the double leg, id probably go for the foot sweep, or high crotch

 

i had boxing lesson today and i underestimated what good strikers can do, so practice your technique alot

Says the guy lifts his leg, with your leg opposite of the kicking or raised leg you would hook your foot around the back of his ankle bring it up to you, grab it, put your other leg behind him and fall with you mounting him.

That'd definately get him if you're faster than the striker, but I really wouldn't count on that.

 

I can't say one thing that works against every striker, but I know a lot that like to keep their distance. If you throw a few aggressive feints and get in close just grab on. That'll mess a lot of strikers up unless they've had some experience against grapplers.
