iolair Posted February 27, 2003 Author Posted February 27, 2003 OH DO YOU MEAN THE STYLE WE ARE CURRENTLY PRACTICING?Yes, that's what I meant - sorry, should have been clearer! SaiFightsMS Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 Now this is a constructive way to compare similarities and differences among school. And I must say this is a very interesting thread. Keep them coming.

iolair Posted February 27, 2003 Author Posted February 27, 2003 I thought judo also taught striking ?Not really. Jigoro Kano originally included striking when he formulated Judo, but generally it is restricted to being in 1 kata which is not taught before black belt.... For the average Judoka, Judo effectively has no striking. Currently: Kickboxing and variants.Previously: Karate (Seido, Shotokan, Seidokan), Ju Jitsu, Judo, Aikido, Fencing.
DokterVet Posted February 28, 2003 Posted February 28, 2003 Wado-Ryu Karate Groundwork: 1 (occasional freestyle grappling with an 'anything that works' strategy) Trapping, Throws and Takedowns: 3 (Hip tosses and joint locks are staples of the Kihon Kumite(pre-arranged sparring)) Infighting - Elbows, Knees and Head: 1 (We practice the techniques, but don't employ them often) Punching: 4 (The single biggest focus of karate) Kicking: 3.5 (Almost as important is punching, but not quite) Weapons: 0.5 (optional training in sai, bo, shindo, etc. mostly at black belt level. Not really part of the style, but incorporated by individual teachers) 22 years oldShootwrestlingFormerly Wado-Kai Karate
